His childhood was spent in the tea gardens of Dooars, West Bengal. He began his primary education from Jalpaiguri district school and he was graduated in Bengali from Scottish Church College in Kolkata and he completed a Masters from the University of Calcutta. He had a severe addiction to group theater, his first story, “Anyamatrara” was writing as theater. And from there began his writer-life. Samaresh Majumder’s first novel, “Dour” was published in Desh Patrika in 1976. He is an author of many novels, short stories,  travelogues, Teenager novels. His notable novels and stories are- Satkahon, Tero Parban, Swopner Bazar, Uzan Ganga, Victoriyar Bagan, Aat Kuthuri Noy Darja, Anurag, Bangalir Nostami etc. ‘Arjun‘ is the most popular detective fiction character of his creation.
